“Vor 20 Jahren bin ich nach dem Sandmännchen ins Bett gegangen und am nächsten Morgen wachte ich in einem Europa ohne Mauern auf”

Vor einer Woche wurde in Berlin groß gefeiert. Hunderttausende Berliner und vor allem Gäste aus aller Welt jubelten als die symbolische Mauer aus 1000 übergroßen Dominosteinen in sich zusammen fiel. Diese Dominosteine sollten die Ereignisse darstellen die vor 20 Jahren zum Fall des eisernen Vorhangs geführt haben. Es war ein wunderbarer Event dem auch viele Staatsgäste aus dem europäischen Ausland beiwohnten. Angestoßen wurden die Steine von wichtigen Persönlichkeiten der Wiedervereinigung. Auch unser Hostel stand voll im Zeichen der Wiedervereinigung. 40 Kids aus Frankreich und Deutschland übernachteten bei uns. Sie gehören zu einer gemeinsamen Gruppe von jugendlichen mit geistiger Behinderung die am Brandenburger Tor zur Wiedervereinigungsfeier einen Auftritt hatten. Es war wirklich schön mit an zu sehen und zu erfahren wie man in anderen Europäischen Ländern über die Wiedervereinigung denkt und das dieser Tag nicht nur ein Deutscher Feiertag ist, sondern in ganz Europa große Bedeutung hat. Wir hoffen das Die Kinder von le Grappillon und Lernmobil viel Spass in Berlin hatten. Wir hatten diesen auf jeden Fall.

“Schmaulie”  <— for those who know

Die MTV Music Awards 2009 kommen am 5. November zurück nach Berlin. der Heimatstadt der Musik. Live wird der Event aus der O2 World Arena übertragen. Bei den EMAs sollen dieses Jahr nicht nur die Musiker geehrt werden, die von den MTV Zuschauern ausgesucht wurden, sondern auch das wichtigste Datum des 20. Jahrhunderts. Den Fall der Berliner Mauer. Die Show soll um dieses Thema aufgebaut werden.

Our Hostel is busy.. guess why? Its Marathon Weekend!!

On September 20, 2009,  Berlin will be celebrating a fabulous anniversary. When over 40,000 athletes set off on the fastest marathon course in the world, cheered on by a million spectators , the 36th BERLIN MARATHON will once again captivate the German capital. Participating in the  BERLIN MARATHON means a lot more than just running the same 42 kilometres together with the fastest athletes in the world, however.

Experiencing the fantastic atmosphere along the course and running through the Brandenburg Gate and past the grandstands the last 400 meters to the finish line make this euphoric marathon race an unforgettable experience for everyone.

U inn Berlin Hostel is happy to have more than 10 Guests from Japan, Denmark, England, Scotland and Germany. They all will do the Marathon. We  would like to wish you lots of success and fun in doing so.

Sunday … Sunday is Flea-market day in Berlin. For Berliners a normal Sunday starts with a propper Brunch in of of the popular cafés in Prenzlauer Berg or in Friedrichshain or Kruezberg. But after that its Flea-Market time! In Berlin we have many Flea-Markets. But the two most important Markets are the ‘Boxi-Market‘ and the one at ‘Mauerpark’.

If you wanna do it like the locals, than go to the market not before 2pm, because from 2 pm you will see all these various people, you only find on those venues. An old grandma selling flowers form her garden, a guy who tries to make a good deal with bikes.. he stole one night before.. or the  businessman who stands behind  a table with bike locks its one big natural circle!! So take care of your bike. But you also meet the Berliners.. just wake up with a cup of hot coffee or whatever you fancy.

Big old trees providing shade, when you sit in one of the many Cafes and Bars, watching the people passing by. On the Market you will find many things you never find somewhere else… and unfortunately you not really need. But you will buy it anyway.. A chair, a Bike, an old Photo camera, or old used postcards. The Boxi-Market is not famous for the stuff you can buy there. Its a place to meet friends or make new friends. Of course you can get good stuff there.. mostly T-Shirts but don’t pay more than 15€ for one. Also buttons and patches in many colors and any statements.

“Alternative Berlin” started their Partybus Tour

Last night we were invited to join the opening of *EVIL JAROD`S PARTYBUS tour.*
The tour starts every Wednedsday and Thursday at 8.30 pm at Revaler Strasse 96 on the West Coast Customs parking lot. The tour takes approximately 4 hours through Berlin at night, passing the famous sights like Alexanderplatz, Reichstag, Museum Island in Mitte but also

.. the alternative district Friedrichshain or the multicultural district of Kreuzberg.

Have a party in front of the famous Brandenburger Tor and take some snapshots before the bus drives you back to the “Cassiopeia” /Revaler Strasse.

Sure.. you can also just layback and enjoy a cocktail at the bar.

The meetingpoint at the West Coast Customs is just 10 minutes walking distance far away from the “U inn Berlin Hostel“.

We gonna have a farewell BBQ for her, guests and the crew and friends.

The Easter weekend in Berlin was wonderful,  everybody hung out in the Park and enjoy the sun.

Everybody..? No not everybody..! 2 Girls from Maastricht plan a Easter trip and checked out Prague and Berlin. They also stayed at our Hostel and they wrote something about there trip on www.offexploring.com I think they enjoyed there trip very well…
