Transmediale 2k+12 – in/compatible

Berlin Festival 2011 at Tempelhof Airport and Club X-Berg

with Public Enemy, Boy Gorge and Boys Noize

On the 9th-10th of August, the Berlin Festival will once again take place at the old Tempelhof Airport. The Tempelhof Airport is an awesome location, with the main terminal providing shelter in case of a rainy day. However, we should stay positive! With such a stellar lineup, the Berlin Festival once agin gets a top position in the field of Indie Electro festivals in Europe. They still manage to keep a good mix between Hipster Indie and Freaky Berlin Stylish Electro. Hey, Whoever thought that you would see Public Enemy and Boy George on the same Festival … Interesting!!

Tempelhof Airport is situated right in the middle of Berlin, so there were some problems last year with their neighbours. This year, the festival is split into two parts. Part one is the Berlin Festival during the day at the airport. Part two is the Club X-Berg Festival at the Berlin Arena in Kreuzberg. The Berlin Arena is well known for housing big events, so we can expect a huge non-stop party!

“Participate in the vibrant sounds and beats of Fête de la Musique – the European and Worldwide Music Day! The Fête de la Musique began in Paris in 1982, and was founded by the popular French cultural minister Jack Lang. The festival originated in a humble burst of musical idealism and a few power connections, and yet, in only two decades has become a wildly popular global event.

This season, the summertime musical event will draw music lovers in over 340 cities worldwide, 60 European cities, 22 of them in Germany alone. On June 21st one can hear all styles of music that is free to the public thanks to all of the musicians, bands, orchestras, choirs, soloists and DJs that perform for free on this day. In Berlin, Fête de la Musique has been produced by the Fête Company since 1995. The festival started as a small movement and has grown to be one of the largest and most widely attended music festivals our city offers!”

The Street Festival 10th June – 13th June

Come right in! Listen and dance to the sound of Berlin: four different stages – Bazaár Berlin, Eurasia, Farafina & Latinauta – want to introduce Berlin’s music szene as well as international bands to you. Stiltwalkers, acrobats and magicians settle on the grassland and invite all visitors to test their own abilities in those fields and practice their skills in creativity. 330 market stalls attract with culinary seducements, arts and crafts and much more.

The Highlight the Procession 12th June

On the Sunday of Pentecost, 12th June 2011, about 4.800 participants organised in 93 groups will change Kreuzberg into a sea of colours and ideas.  We expect about 700.000 visitors to celebrate Berlin’s diversity along the route. The street procession focusses on the cultural richness of Berlin, and also highlights the often hidden treasures of its international cultural scene. It questions everyday life and politics. Carnival is a combined art form that embraces many aspects of artistic expression. Due to the global migration currents it is multifacetted and of mixed styles. The Carnival of Cultures is open to everybody and all forms of cultural expression. It is regarded as a platform for a proud expression of hybrid cultural identities, containing traditional and contemporary elements. It includes and attracts all age groups, professional artists and amateurs, people from all walks of life.

Big Apple meets Dickes B: From New York to Berlin …. Just for the weekend!  1

Cat.: Allgemein, Berlin, Hostel, Party
22. Januar 2011

Berlins very new Airport BBI: Berlin Brandenburg International is not finished yet. But some Airlines already offer new intercontinental flight connections. Berlin’s biggest player Air Berlin is offering now its new connections to New York, Verona and Oliba. And Royal Jordanian flys you down to the Middle East or even to South-East Asia.

If you come from Barcelona and you are sick of local clubs and you wanna visit the Panorama/Berghain, then not only EasyJet and RyanAir could be your sole choice.. no – as from now you can also fly in with SpanAir. Ok unfortunately this will not help you to bypass the door at the Berghain Club. But it will connect two of Europe’s major party citys.

Since Air Berlin is a low cost carrier, you get quite cheap deals for you Berlin flights. Why not fly in from Big Apple on a Friday for a weekend?!

  • Check-in at the hostel try-out our free dinner at the hostel kitchen
  • Prepare yourself for a pub crawl on “Simon-Dach-Strasse” (Left side up and Right side down)
  • On Saturday wake up early take a Aspirin( remember: pub crawl last night)
  • Have a breakfast and start the day at the “East Side Gallery”
  • Visit “Alexanderplatz” and walk up “Unter den Linden”
  • Make a snapshot at the “Brandenburger Tor”
  • Get a visa stamp in your passport witch says that you have checked in at “communist wonderland” (not very sure if the TSA likes that :-)
  • Jump on the M100 Bus and make a free BusTour
  • Heading back to the hostel for a short nap and ask our friendly receptionist “What’s up tonight”
  • Wake up in the morning and ask yourself *oh my god what have i done*

Yes you are in Berlin, 3,978 miles from home, don’t know what you done in the last 48h. But luckily you found a flight ticket under your pillow. It says that you have 2 hours to get back to the airport and finally back to your so loved Big Apple.

Berlin Festival 2010 Hostels in berlin

For two days the former airport field of Flughafen Tempelhof changes into a giant dance floor. This middle-in-the-city festival has become very popular over the years and among the Melt-Festival, has proven that this concept works.

This will be one of Atari Teenage Riot few concerts in Germany this year and Boys Noise Records has its own stage for their own signed artists and some chosen ones, such as D.I.M Strip Steve, Housemeister and Peaches will give all they got ´n more. For more pop like fans Tahiti 80 and The morning Benders will perform. Even the Never die Rockers of Gang of Four are invited…. So there will be something for all at the Berlin Festival.

The location is very special. The airport building surrounding parts of the area is one of the world’s biggest buildings and offers protection and atmosphere that is so Berlin like. This one you can’t camp on so that means you all need a place to sleep at and that you can find in our lovely U inn Berlin Hostel. Located in Friedrichshain and close to the S-Bahn station Frankfurter Allee it is easy to go between the Berlin Festival and hostel with the highly sophisticated Berlin public transport system. Berlin’s Top 5+1 Beach Bars for the Summer  0

Cat.: Party, Staff
18. Juli 2010

Goin` for the beach in Berlin? Oh yes! The Spree river that curls through the city is about 46 kilometers long. Enough space for a vaste variety of beaches and beach bars. Which of those spots is the best, coolest or most relaxing place? – You´ll have to define for yourself. Here is our 5+1 list of recommendations for Berlin beach action. (The „Club der Visionäre“ ['club of visionaries'] is not a real beach bar, yet it has to be on the list, as it is one of Berlin´s finest chill-out locations.)

Club der Visionäre

The „Club der Visionäre“ is no beach bar as such. The sand is replaced by wooden planks, which makes the bar partly floating on the water. Sitting with dangled legs in the cool water, sipping on your drink while trees all around the club provide you with shade. This is the perfect place to relax. On the weekends the CdV turns into a floating party with cool techno beats by well known DJ’s of the scene.

Homepage: www.clubdervisionaere.com

Address: Am Flutgraben/Lohmühlen Insel

Kiki Blofeld

The ‘Kiki Blofeld’ you´ll find right opposite of the Bar25 at the river Spree. The place is cozy and relaxed with more green and less sand around. On the premises is also an old (sea-) bunker from the times of GDR border-police. Nowadays this is where the music plays after nightfall. There is also pool and table tennis and for the culinary well-being you can order pizza or grilled sausages. By the way: Kiki Blofeld is the daughter of Ernest Stavros Blofeld the villain from the early James Bond movies. Kiki wanted to redeem her name and so she gave us this compound of nearly1 hectar.

Homepage:  www.kikiblofeld.de

Address: Köpenickerstr. 48

Yaam

The Yaam has earned itself quite a reputation over the years as „Berlin`s finest place in reaggae culture” and most Berliners know it of course. Here one can hang out and relax to reaggae vibes. On the premises you´ll find fields for basketball, a halfpipe and the obligatory table tennis. At night the beach bar is magically transormed into a hot club where one can dance and party till dawn.

Homepage: www.yaam.de

Address: Stralauer Platz 35

Bar 25

You´re jus´ looking for a break, silence and relaxation? You jus´ wanna hang out in the sun with your feet in the ice-cool water, while nothing bothers you? Then definitely avoid Bar 25! as this is the location for afterhours in Berlin. Though it´s not really clear, when the afterhour starts or ends, but most certainly you can dance and party on even on a monday night.

Homepage: www.bar25.de

Address: Holzmarkt 25

Badeschiff

Berlin’s swimming pool in the river Spree. Here you can drop by – to see and be seen. Students reading books, DJ’s spinning the records and Checker checking. Paddling lonely is not a townie’s thing, so do not be surprised if it gets tight. Sitting lonely at the lake is quite a back number.

Homepage: www.arena-berlin.de

Address: Eichenstrasse 4

Oststrand

The ‘east beach’ is situated in the former border strip of the berlin wall, right behind legendary east-side-gallery, just next to the O2-World arena. Since going to see the east-side-gallery is on top of most visitor´s checklist, attending ‘Oststrand’ is definetely worth the small detour. Just give yourself the time to hang out for a cool beer or a fruity cocktail. They also make fresh pizza! In july the 8th Völkerball – worldchampionship will take place here.
