Berlin Festival 2011 at Tempelhof Airport and Club X-Berg

with Public Enemy, Boy Gorge and Boys Noize

On the 9th-10th of August, the Berlin Festival will once again take place at the old Tempelhof Airport. The Tempelhof Airport is an awesome location, with the main terminal providing shelter in case of a rainy day. However, we should stay positive! With such a stellar lineup, the Berlin Festival once agin gets a top position in the field of Indie Electro festivals in Europe. They still manage to keep a good mix between Hipster Indie and Freaky Berlin Stylish Electro. Hey, Whoever thought that you would see Public Enemy and Boy George on the same Festival … Interesting!!

Tempelhof Airport is situated right in the middle of Berlin, so there were some problems last year with their neighbours. This year, the festival is split into two parts. Part one is the Berlin Festival during the day at the airport. Part two is the Club X-Berg Festival at the Berlin Arena in Kreuzberg. The Berlin Arena is well known for housing big events, so we can expect a huge non-stop party!

Accommodation in Berlin

Since there are no camping sites available at the Berlin Festival, you will need to find other accommodation during your stay. From U Inn Berlin Hostel, the festival is easily accessible. You can get to Tempelhof Airport via the Ring Bahn train from Frankfurter Allee.To Club X-Burger, you can catch the S Bahn for 2 stations.

Die 21. Auslandsreise Papst Benedikt XVI.  vom 22. bis 25. September 2011 führt ihn in das Erzbistum Berlin, in das Bistum Erfurt und das Erzbistum Freiburg. Auf dem Programm gehören auch Termine mit den Repräsentanten der jüdischen Gemeinde, des Islam, der orthodoxen Kirche, mit Vertretern des Rates der Evangelischen Kirche Deutschlands und mit Mitgliedern des Zentralkomitees der deutschen Katholiken.  Unter anderem  wird  Papst Benedikt XVI. sich auch mit Bundeskanzlerin Angela Merkel, Bundespräsident Christian Wulff und Vertretern des Bundesverfassungsgerichts zu Gesprächen treffen.

Um 10.30 Uhr am Donnerstag, den 22.September 2011, wird die Ankunft des Papstes in Berlin-Tegel erwartet. Begrüßt wird der Papst von Bundespräsident Christian Wulff im Schloss Bellevue. Später am Nachmittag steht noch eine Rede vor dem Bundestag auf dem Programm. Für den frühen Abend, gegen 18:30 Uhr, ist im Olympiastadion, das 70.000 Menschen fassen kann,  ein Gottesdienst geplant.  Wer hierfür Interesse hat, kann sich unter www.papst-in-deutschland.de registrieren lassen. Jede Person kann sich noch zusätzlich für bis zu 5 Karten registrieren lassen.

Wer jetzt Lust bekommen hat den Papst Live zu sehen, sollte rechtzeitig Sein Bett im Hostel buchen.  September ist mit Großveranstaltungen wie dem Berlin-Marathon, der Berlin Music Week sowie Tagungen und Kongresse ein recht gefragter Reisemonat.

Wasserschlacht oder Gemüseschlacht – Water-fight or Food-fight! Call it as you like! The last Wasserschlacht took place in 2008 at the Oberbaumbrücke between Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg. And it was an epic event. No need to guess who won the fight coz as always Friedrichshian WON!! Why we do it?

Simple answer! Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg were once 2 separate districts. But politicians made a decision and now it is one big district. They take care of all the basic stuff like new street name signes and so on…But they forgot the far most important question. Who will be the king in the new born district. hat’s what the fight is about and so far Friedrichshain always wins. The last Wasserschlacht took place 4 years ago and now Kreuzberg claims once agin that the throne belongs to them.

We want you to help Friedichshain and join us on the 28th of August at 12am at the Oberbaumbrücke. Equip yourself with a camouflage rubbish bag a water gun and some old vegetables. Everything what is old rotten or soft is allowed. Prepare yourself to get a little dirty

Wir alle können uns noch an die WM 2010 erinnern. Ganz Berlin zitterte gemeinsam vor den Großbildleihwänden beim Public Viewing. Heute startet die Frauenfußball-WM 2011 in Deutschland. Das bedeutet wir können das Bier wieder kaltstellen und die Liegestühle raus holen. Es ist die tollste Jahreszeit von allen “Public Viewing” In Berlin  gibt es auch diesen Sommer wieder viele kleine Fußball-Oasen. Die 11 Freundinnen haben ihr WM-Quartier im Lido eingerichtet. Im Cassiopeia Freiluftkino Insel sind die Frauen am Ball unterwegs und bieten noch viel mehr als nur die Übertragung der Spiele. Fernseher ade, Insel ole heißt es auf der Insel Berlin in Treptow. Damit ihr auch eurer Lieblingsmannschaft zujubeln könnt und nichts verpasst bekommt ihr hier den Spielplan der Frauenfußball-WM 2011.

11 Freundinnen WM-Quartier im Lido

Na wer kann sich noch an die hoffnungslosen Staus vorm letztjährigen WM-Quatier der 11Freunde erinnern. Dieses Jahr wird der Ball im Lido in Kreuzberg gekickt. gezeigt derden alle Vorrundenspiele der Deutschen Frauen und alle KO Spiele. Bei grossem Interesse werden aber auch andere Vorrundenspiele übertragen. Das Lido bietet dabei Platz für bis zu 700 Fans.

We all remember the World-cup 2010 in South-Africa, it was a big party. Like South Africa, Berlin celebrated in 2006 when the World-Cup was held in Germany. This summer, put the beer in the fridge! Its ‘Public-Viewing’ season in Berlin. Everywhere in the city, you can watch the games live on big screens. At the Lido Club in Berlin Kreuzberg, the “11FREUNDINNEN” moved into their summer headquarters, “Frauen am Ball” squatting the Cassiopeia beer-garden and at “Insel Berlin” in Treptow, you can watch the games on a little island surrounded by nature. The Street Festival 10th June – 13th June

Come right in! Listen and dance to the sound of Berlin: four different stages – Bazaár Berlin, Eurasia, Farafina & Latinauta – want to introduce Berlin’s music szene as well as international bands to you. Stiltwalkers, acrobats and magicians settle on the grassland and invite all visitors to test their own abilities in those fields and practice their skills in creativity. 330 market stalls attract with culinary seducements, arts and crafts and much more.

The Highlight the Procession 12th June

On the Sunday of Pentecost, 12th June 2011, about 4.800 participants organised in 93 groups will change Kreuzberg into a sea of colours and ideas.  We expect about 700.000 visitors to celebrate Berlin’s diversity along the route. The street procession focusses on the cultural richness of Berlin, and also highlights the often hidden treasures of its international cultural scene. It questions everyday life and politics. Carnival is a combined art form that embraces many aspects of artistic expression. Due to the global migration currents it is multifacetted and of mixed styles. The Carnival of Cultures is open to everybody and all forms of cultural expression. It is regarded as a platform for a proud expression of hybrid cultural identities, containing traditional and contemporary elements. It includes and attracts all age groups, professional artists and amateurs, people from all walks of life.

As soon as the days get longer Berlin’s Open Air Cinemas open up for summer season 2011. A very prominent and unique cinema is “Freiluftkino Insel im Cassiopeia”. Located in an old train depot, Cassiopeia is one of Friedrichshains most famous clubs. Just a few meters from Warschauer Strasse at Revaler Strasse – also known as “Technostrich” (don’t ask ) – it is the perfect spot to start your Open Air Cinema night. After watching a movie you can jump right in to the night-life of Berlin Friedrichshian. Next to the cinema you will find clubs like Cassiopeia, RAW, Suicide Circus, Astra Kulturhaus, M.I.K.Z. or Rosi’s. Also there are many good restaurants and cocktail bars around the corner at Simon-Dach-Strasse.

Here you will find the program for May 2011. Most movies are “Orginal mit Untertitel”, which means the movies will be screened in their original languages (mostly English) but with subtitles. At 8:30 PM on Saturday 26th of March 2011 U inn Berlin will participate in switching off lights for Earth Hour. As a statement against climate change Earth Hour will be happening all around the globe and has already managed to darken cities like Sidney or San Francisco during Earth Hours over the past years. After the recent happenings in Japan it seems more obvious than ever that the way towards a better future lies in working together and commonly creating awareness.
